20th Anniversary2021-07-26T10:10:45-04:00

As we begin our 20th program year, we are in awe of the success and growth of the more than 3,500 young people we’ve served. Each student has their own story, but the common thread that bonds all MGP students’ journeys is the family of mentors and supporters who have and continue to guide them along the way. See how you can celebrate this incredible milestone and ensure their journey to success.

Confidence to Persevere

Erin Martin

MGP Class of 2017, Senior, Alabama A&M University

Midnight Golf supported me when I needed them the most and helped me prove to myself that I can overcome anything. With MGP’s support, I was able to manage remote learning, being laid off from my job, and challenges to my mental health. I am now just weeks away from earning my degree in marketing.

MGP’s IMPACT: MGP helped pay a portion of my tuition and housing balance to enroll for my final semester.

Paying it Forward

Lance Johnson

MGP Class of 2018, Junior, Michigan State University

I’m not sure where I would be without my MGP family. Despite the stress of the pandemic and a challenging family situation, I was determined to make the most of my junior year at MSU and make sure my classmates could do the same. I worked with my coach, Winston, and was able to get the help I needed to stay on track academically and raised $1,500 to provide other MGP students with care packages filled with school supplies and treats.

MGP’s IMPACT: Lance received the financial aid he needed to pay his tuition, housing and stay enrolled at MSU.

 “20 For 20” Story Series

There’s no better way to celebrate our anniversary than by sharing our students’ stories of success, struggle and perseverance. We’re looking for alumni stories as well as volunteer storytellers (filmmakers, videographers, writers) to help tell these stories. If interested, contact Gabe Neistein at gneistein@midnightgolf.org.

Alumni, Student and Mentor Stories

A Family for Life

Dr. Chanel Wilson

MGP Class of 2009, Masters in Public Health and Doctorate in Pharmacy from Campbell University

With just two exams remaining, I was so close to achieving my dream. The uncertainty because of the pandemic greatly impacts my ability to find a job in my field and causes further financial hardship. The financial support I’ve received from MGP eases these hardships and allows me to focus all of my energy on my studies. I look forward to becoming MGP’s first alumni pharmacist!

MGP’s IMPACT: MGP helped cover Chanel’s exam fees, provided financial support to help with her living expenses and connected her with a practitioner in her field to expand her professional support system.

Our Story

A lot has changed in 20 years but our commitment to equipping young people with the skills and guidance they need to be successful has remained the same. See how our program has grown into Detroit’s premiere youth development program!
